Goji berry

The goji berry legend holds that a three hundred-year-old woman, with an astonishingly young appearance, claimed the fruit was the source of her miraculous youth. No one can say whether or not consuming wolfberries daily determines a significant increase in life expectancy, but Chinese herbal masters believe the fruit is the secret to immortality. Goji berries have been part of the diet in Mongolia and China for more than three thousand years. The alkaline fruit reinforces immunity, improves vision and prevents free radical mechanisms damaging the body, increasing stamina and promoting youthful skin. The fruit contains 18 amino acids and 21 minerals. The dried berry’s flavor is reminiscent of a cranberry or a sour cherry. Goji berries can be used in chicken stews, served as a nutrient-dense topping for salads, cereals, duck dizzi, or added to a sweet congee. The ruby red berry can transform into soup or wine. Its sweet and slightly tart flavour pairs well with strawberries, chocolate, chia and vodka, just to name a few. The fruit’s magic lies within the Lycium barbarum tree. The leaf of a goji berry tree is thought of as the “longevity of life” and its bark as “the skin and bone of the earth.”  Whether or not you believe goji berry is the answer to extending life span, it certainly won’t hurt to incorporate the antioxidant powerhouse into your granola tomorrow.
